Spontaneous synchrony in power-grid networks

چکیده
S1. Power-grid data. The data required for power flow calculations were obtained as follows. For the 10-generator system, known as the New England test system, the parameters were taken from ref. 47. For the 3and 50-generator systems, the parameters were taken from refs. 30 and 48, respectively. The data for the Guatemala and Northern Italy systems were provided by F. Milano (University of Castilla – La Mancha), and the data for the Poland system were provided as part of the MATPOWER software package49. The dynamic data required to calculate the synchronous state, determine its stability, and simulate equation (2) in the main text, are not all available for the real power grids, and were obtained as follows. For all systems, we assumed that before any optimization the damping coefficient and droop parameter satisfy Di + 1/Ri = 50 per unit for all generators. The parameters xd,i and Hi are available for the three test systems from the respective references mentioned above. For the Guatemala, Northern Italy, and Poland systems, we estimated xd,i and Hi using the strong correlation observed in the test systems between each of these parameters and the power Pi injected by generator i into the network, as shown in Supplementary Fig. S1. The estimated values are xd,i ≈ 92.8P−1.3 i and Hi ≈ 0.04Pi, where Pi is in megawatts, xd,i is in per unit, and Hi is in seconds.

Impact of network topology on synchrony of oscillatory power grids.
Replacing conventional power sources by renewable sources in current power grids drastically alters their structure and functionality. In particular, power generation in the resulting grid will be far more decentralized, with a distinctly different topology. Here, we analyze the impact of grid topologies on spontaneous synchronization, considering regular, random, and small-world topologies and...
متن کاملA Grid-Connected PV Inverter with Compensation of Load Active and Reactive Power Imbalance for Distribution Networks
Load balancing is an important issue in distributed systems. In addition, using distributed generation sources such as photovoltaic is increasing. Power electronic converters are main interfaces between the sources and the grid. In this paper, a method has been proposed to reduce the load imbalancing in distribution networks using PV Grid Interface Converter. Two DC/DC and DC/AC converters have...

متن کاملVery Fast Load Flow Calculation Using Fast-Decoupled Reactive Power Compensation Method for Radial Active Distribution Networks in Smart Grid Environment Based on Zooming Algorithm
Distribution load flow (DLF) calculation is one of the most important tools in distribution networks. DLF tools must be able to perform fast calculations in real-time studies at the presence of distributed generators (DGs) in a smart grid environment even in conditions of change in the network topology. In this paper, a new method for DLF in radial active distribution networks is proposed. The ...
متن کاملBraess's paradox in oscillator networks, desynchronization and power outage
Robust synchronization is essential to ensure the stable operation of many complex networked systems such as electric power grids. Increasing energy demands and more strongly distributing power sources raise the question of where to add new connection lines to the already existing grid. Here we study how the addition of individual links impacts the emergence of synchrony in oscillator networks ...
